All of Rainbow District School Board’s elementary schools will offer in-person kindergarten orientation sessions during May for children starting school this fall and their parents/guardians.
Families will have an opportunity to connect with kindergarten teachers, early childhood educators and school personnel. They will also meet other children starting school.
Parents who have not registered their children still have time to do so and can reserve their spot for kindergarten orientation by calling their nearest Rainbow school. Registrations for September 2022 will also be accepted at the orientation.
“It’s important for school staff to establish strong connections and engage parents and guardians as partners in education,” said Rainbow District School Board Director of Education Bruce Bourget, in a press release.
“Building this partnership begins long before the first day of school. Starting school is not the beginning of a child’s learning journey – it’s a continuation of the journey together.”
During orientation, parents/guardians will learn strategies to help children get ready for school, with a focus on literacy and numeracy. Families will receive a bag of resources that may contain information from the school, the board and/or community partners, such as transportation or Public Health programs.
“Kindergarten Orientation helps to bridge the transition from home to school,” said Bourget. “Parents will leave with strategies and resources to introduce children to Rainbow Schools and the wonderful experiences that await them.”
