L’Arche Sudbury, a non-profit that works with people with intellectual disabilities, has announced a new way to Rock the Boat in honour of founding member Roma Griffin.
As part of their 40th anniversary celebrations, L’Arche is hosting an event that will raise funds through rocking chairs, as Roma was a great lover of a good rocking chair.
The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 28 in front of the Amici and Ezentials building located at 863 Barrydowne Rd.
You don’t need to attend to contribute, but if you’re looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon, there will be 10 rocking chairs waiting for you to enjoy, even for a minute or two, in Roma’s name.
There will also be live music being performed by members of AndDeJam from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Fundraising starts by signing up on the website and encouraging donors to donate online through their profile so that the person doing the fundraising gets credit for the money they’ve raised.
Whoever raises the most will receive a glider chair, donated by Ashley Homestore. There is also a second-place prize donated by Amici and Ezentials, and a third-place prize from Great Canadian Games.
Donations can be made on their website, found here.
