Winter weather hit Greater Sudbury last night, bringing close to four centimetres of snow. This inclement weather has increased the number of motor vehicle collisions, according to Greater Sudbury Police.

Staff Sgt. John Lalonde said police responded to 12 collisions between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., five of them on The Kingsway in a matter of 30 minutes.

The police are urging drivers to maintain a extra distance behind cars and giving yourself extra time to brake when approaching intersections.

“The roads are slick because of the sheet of ice underneath the snow, which makes braking difficult,” Lalonde said.
