The Laurentian University Faculty Association (LUFA) got the strike mandate it was looking for from its members.

LUFA's previous contract expired on June 30. The union will be in a legal strike position as of 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 28.

Members voted 91 per cent in favour of strike action in the event a new collective agreement cannot be reached with Laurentian's board of governors.

"We are most grateful for this strong show of support from our members," LUFA president Jim Ketchen is quoted in a news release. "We don’t want to strike, but will if the administration isn’t willing to negotiate a fair collective agreement. We hope that this vote will convince the administration to become serious about reaching a deal."
