The president of Laurentian University has confirmed that an individual living in the university’s residence has tested positive for COVID-19.

The person who tested positive is now self-isolating, and Public Health Sudbury & District has completed contact tracing.

This is as Laurentian offers rapid COVID-19 antigen testing on campus for asymptomatic students living on campus at their request. The university’s student newspaper, Lambda, reported Jan. 14 that the testing had identified one preliminary positive case.

“The university has worked, and continues to work, with Public Health Sudbury & District as the health and safety of our community is our top priority,” said Laurentian president Robert Haché, in a press release, in a statement published Jan. 15 on the university’s website.

“We remind you that as a community, we have a shared responsibility to continue to strictly adhere to public health regulations – through frequent hand-washing, physical distancing and wearing face coverings.

“With our continued focus on remote learning and the vigilance by those members of our community required to be on campus, I am confident we can continue to minimize the risk of cases.”
