Laurentian University's Board of Governors have approved the detailed planning of a new, 225-bed student residence on campus.

Final approval for construction will be given once the tendering process has been completed. A new residence has become a necessity because of the 50% increase in Laurentian's student population since 2000.

With this addition, which is to be completed by the fall of 2006, the total capacity of all on-campus residences will increase to 1,400 students.

It will be the first residence to be built on the Laurentian campus since 1972. Located and joined to the west of the Single Students' Residence, it will be linked to the other university residence buildings and students will have access to existing student services.

The new residence will be completed in time to welcome its first group of students in September, 2006. For more information, please contact Romeo Bertoli, director of services at Laurentian University, at 675-1151, ext. 3003.
