Laurentian University has announced that its current provost and vice-president, academic, Marie-Josée Berger, will be departing from the university as of Nov. 18.

In July, Laurentian announced what it called the “pending retirement” of both Berger and president Robert Haché as part of the terms of its plan of arrangement, which outlines the roadmap to pay back LU’s creditors.

Haché departed from the university earlier this month.

Sudbury.com has obtained a copy of an internal email sent out to the Laurentian community Nov. 16 regarding Berger’s departure.

The email said Berger would “take leave” from Laurentian effective Nov. 18.

It also said that beginning Nov. 19, Berger would be replaced temporarily by Céline Larivière, currently Laurentian’s dean of education and health.

She will serve as interim provost and vice-president, academic until a new interim provost assumes the role.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Tammy Eger, Laurentian’s vice-president of research, is Laurentian’s interim president until a longer-term interim president can be announced.

With Larivière taking on the role of interim vice-president, academic, Patrice Milewski will serve as interim dean of education and health. He is currently the associate dean of the faculty.

“Further changes in senior leadership in the roles of Interim President and Interim Provost will be announced shortly,” said the internal email from Laurentian.
