Leadership through Community Action: Huntington University acknowledges Sudbury's best

Dr. Edward J. Conroy Distinguished Lecture Series and Community Leadership Awards given to local residents, organizations

Notable Sudbury residents gathered Tuesday afternoon to celebrate this year's recipients of the Dr. Edward J. Conroy Distinguished Lecture Series and Community Leadership Awards. 

The prestigious event and awards program was hosted by Huntington University to celebrate local residents and organizations who demonstrate true leadership through community action. 

Honoured on Jan. 23 are: 

Richard Rainville, for his ongoing advocacy, dedicated leadership locally, and across the North.

Rainville has been fostering positive networks with government and community-based service providers to deliver clinical and supportive programs related to HIV, Hepatitis C and harm reduction for more than 28 years. As Executive Director of Reseau ACCESS Network -- HIV/Hepatitis Health and Social Services, he has led several initiatives, such as the HAVEN HIV outpatient clinic, supportive housing and palliative care projects. 

The Sudbury Hospice Foundation, which is committed to resident/client empowerment and education. The foundation provides care to Sudbury-Manitoulin districts and has assisted a number of capital building projects through corporate sponsorship, fundraising events, and foundation grants. 

John Corsi, for his dedication to excellence and his contributions to community. 

Corsi is president and CEO of J. Corsi Developments, a real estate developer primarily known for its prestigious 300-plus hilltop subdivision known as Copper Park. Corsi led a successful masonry contracting firm which built many of the north's major landmarks including Science North, Dynamic Earth and Health Sciences North. 

The Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre, which features Prescott Park (where a number of train cars and locomotives are on display), the Heritage Centre (formerly the Capreol Fire and Police Departments), and the 1916-constructed museum house, which pays tribute to the region's lumber, mining and railroading heritage. The centre welcomes 14,000 visitors annually between May and October. 

Sudbury Food Bank, which feeds an estimated 14,000 people every month and assists 43 member agencies with continuous donations for people in need. Member agencies stretch across our entire region; from Espanola and Nairn Centre, to Onaping, Levack, Hanmer, Capreol, Wahnapitae, Coniston, Markstay, most areas of Sudbury, and all points between.

Sirio Gregorini, for his dedication to Sudbury and Northern Ontario, and his leadership in the community. 

Gregorini is the entrepreneur behind Nickel City Steel, Crane Hill Mining, Nickel City Contracting, Miroma Automotive Services, and Ponterio Developments, which has several holdings in Sudbury and across Northern Ontario. Sirio and his family have become partners in Sudbury businesses over the years. Michael now manages Nickel City Steel, Rob leads charge at Respect is Burning, and Mark heads fine dining experience at Natura and Ristorante Verdicchio.
