United Way Centraide North East Ontario honoured nine outstanding volunteers at their GenNext Volunteer Awards this spring.
The GenNext program recognizes the volunteer achievements of young people across the Northeast region.
"Winners emulate the true spirit of volunteerism and are recognized for their passion, dedication and community impact," said a United Way news release.
The purpose of the GenNext Volunteer Awards is to honour and celebrate volunteers aged 20 to 39 for exceptional work in his or her community. In its sixth year, the GenNext Volunteer Awards have recognized the contributions of close to 50 dynamic young people.
This year’s winners include:

Active Living and Wellbeing – Kay-Sea Taylor
Animal Welfare – Luca Masetti
Arts and Culture – Mélodie Noël Cyr
Leadership – Bobbie-Lee Brushett and Mélanie-Rose Frappier
Mentorship – Sebastian Diebel and Simon Diebel
Social Justice – Nilgiri Pearson
GenNext is a program that encourages people in their twenties and thirties to become involved with United Way Centraide through giving and volunteering.
As leaders in the community themselves, GenNexters understand the importance of the contributions of young people in our communities.
