If elected to second term in a Liberal government, Paul Lefebvre says he will ensure Sudbury gets its fair share of federal investments to ease housing needs in Sudbury.

“One of the first things I did as MP is meet with Sudbury’s housing providers about their needs, because I knew our government was going to make record investments in housing,” Lefebvre is quoted as saying in a news release.

“Our National Housing Strategy has committed $55 billion over 10 years.”

Sudbury is benefitting from the National Housing Strategy, Lefebvre said. Over the past two years, almost two dozen co-op housing agreements have been extended, allowing thousands of Sudburians to remain in their homes. As well, $1.4 million has  been earmarked for the expansion of the March of Dimes Wade Hampton House now nearing completion in Sudbury.

“And I know the city has filed a significant request to refurbish and expand it’s housing stock, and I plan to fight for this in Ottawa, as I have done for other infrastructure projects,” Lefebvre said in the release.

From seniors and assisted living housing to supporting first-time home buyers, from refurbishing public housing stock to addressing homelessness, mental health and addictions issues, the National Housing Strategy is designed to support a wide range of community needs.

“My government is committed to providing communities with the resources they need to meet local housing needs and I am committed to working with local groups to ensure Sudbury gets its share of these investments,” Lefebvre said.

The National Housing Strategy will create up to 125,000 new housing units and refurbish more than 300,000 public housing units.
