Legend Boats receives $200K FedNor loan

Loan to help Whitefish-based company improve its technology systems

Sudbury MP Paul Lefebvre announced Wednesday FedNor is investing $203,306 through its Northern Ontario Development Program to help Legend Boats improve its technology systems.

Lefebvre visited the family-owned company's new 80,000-square foot production facility and showroom in Whitefish, where he announced the repayable loan on behalf of  Navdeep Bains, the minister responsible for FedNor.

Legend Boats manager Marc Duhamel said they have already used the funds to expand their information technology department with two recent hires, and one more in the works.

Duhamel said Legend Boats will use the loan to build a new customer relations management system, and improve its inventory tracking.

“Right now if you're not moving forward in this economy you're moving backwards,” he said.

The company is connected to a network of 56 independent dealers across Canada, and three larger facilities in Sudbury, Barrie and Montreal. Legend Boats currently employs 96 people.

Duhamel said their new facility gives the company room to expand in all areas, including production.
