The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 179 in Capreol, has donated $500 to the Capreol Citizens on Patrol (COP) pilot project.

The COP project is a program whereby community volunteers patrol parts of the city and watch for suspicious activity, which is noted and reported to police. Capreol and Nickel Centre are the only two areas of town that have the project set up, although the goal is to have the program run across the city.

Branch 179 president Brian Way said the Capreol Legion is committed to supporting programs that benefit the community.

"The COP project is an important step to help make our citizens feel safe," said Way in a news release. "The volunteers of the COP program perform a useful service and must be commended for their dedication."

For more information on the COP project, phone Greater Sudbury Police at 675-9171 or Randy Crisp, president of the Sudbury Steering Committee at 858-2022.
