Festivities are just around the corner, quite literally. Sudbury Charities Foundation unveiled its annual Festival of Lights at Science North today.
Sean Bradley, the foundation’s president, said, “I am proud to carry on a historical tradition of bringing people together.”
The organizers did not let the water main break at Science North wash over their plans. Instead, they moved the festivities outside where a mini snowman making booth was set up and hot beverages were handed out.
The lights were officially turned on by Santa Claus himself, who arrived in style in a fire truck. The display of more than 300 silhouettes will be running till early January.
The event is free to attend, however donations are welcome and are used to support local children's charities.
“I think a lot of people don’t know that 100 per cent of the donations are given to charities,” Samantha Davidson, volunteer organizer of the event, said.
Last year, Sudburians' spirit of giving helped the Festival of Lights raise close to $30,000.
