This news release was issued June 6, 2018, by the Ontario Liberals on behalf of Sudbury candidate Glenn Thibeault and Nickel Belt candidate Tay Butt

Ontario is about to elect a new government, and voters are having a hard time choosing between a Mike Harris-style slash and burn administration under Doug Ford, or a hardline ideological administration under the NDP.

The fact is that a strong Liberal minority will keep right and left-wing agendas in check, and stand up for Ontarians who want sensible policy that doesn’t swing to the radical.

The NDP are beholden to both special interests and inflexible ideology, and have repeatedly demonstrated they’re not ready to be a majority government.

They accidentally left a $1.4 billion per year hole in their fiscal plan, and when they finally admitted it, they simply shrugged their shoulders. They have not even made a weak attempt to explain how they would plug this hole.

They will take $85 million in economic development funding away from the North – these investments have created and maintained 15,000 jobs, and have created new industries, like the Sudbury film industry.

They do not have strong leadership in their potential cabinet. Here are some NDP candidates who may play key roles in the next government:

Paul Miller (Hamilton West-Stoney Creek) is being investigated by the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario after 12 complaints from staff members.

Ramsey Hart (Lanark-Frontenac and Kingston) built his career as an anti-mining advocate.
Erica Kelly (Etobicoke Centre) suggested she would like to see gun owners blown up by drones.

Marco Coletta (Richmond Hill) has called for a 15% cut to teachers’ salaries.

It’s no secret that the Conservatives are basing their platform on cuts to services that will impact peoples’ lives.

Doug Ford has made $6 billion in promises without giving an ounce of evidence on how he will pay for them.

Economists have said Doug Ford will actually run the largest deficit of the three parties.
Doug Ford has repeatedly said the Conservatives are ready to govern, but what kind of leadership and judgment would they provide?

Merilee Fullteron (Kanata-Carleton), a frontrunner for Health Minister, has openly promoted privatized healthcare, and has been in U.S. television talking about how great a two-tier system would be.

Andrew Lawton (London West) has openly propagated alt-right, racist and sexist views – Doug Ford hand-picked him as a candidate.

Raymond Cho (Scarborough-Rouge River), a veteran MPP who is currently apologizing for getting into a fight with a 7th grade student.

Glenn Thibeault has been a strong voice for Sudbury in both government and opposition. As a re-elected MPP for Sudbury, he will continue to be the strongest voice we can have regardless of the outcome of this election.
