A fundraising auction to help a local women get a lifesaving kidney transplant will be held Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. at United Steelworkers Hall on Brady Street.

The event will raise money for Claudette Jones, who has struggled with complications from diabetes for several years. The illness has taken 50 per cent of her sight and led the amputation of one of her feet.

Her doctor informed her she needed a kidney transplant, but while OHIP covers the cost of the surgery, the expenses of staying down south as she recovers from the surgery are far more than she can afford. She relies on disability benefits through the Canada pension plan.

Sunday's auction is being held by Cruisin' for Organs co-director Gerry Montpellier, who's a city councillor in Ward 3 and will be the auctioneer at the event. The event runs from 1-4 p.m. Registration is free and there are no buyer fees.

Items for auction include services – including a cruise for you and 50 friends on the William Ramsey Cruise Boat and a variety of mostly new items, ranging from artwork to tools.
The first 100 to register for the auction will receive free jumbo slice of pizza from Cortina.

All proceeds from the auction going to cover pre- and post-operative costs of her lifesaving surgery. For more information, call Bob Johnston 705-918-9215.
