Light it up: Sudbury Charities Foundation brightens the night with the launch of the 2018 Festival of Lights (Photos)

Science North hosts one of the most interactive festival launches to date

Sudbury got a whole lot brighter Sunday with the launch of the Sudbury Charities Foundation’s Annual Festival of Lights at Science North.

Among the hundreds of boys and girls anxious to get their moment with Santa Claus could be seen one of the most elaborate launches of the festival to date.

Sudburians were invited to indulge in a 20-foot buffet showcasing a wide variety of deliciousness including pizza, veggies and of course, hot chocolate.

But that’s not even the best part — Sudbury Charities Foundation enrolled the help of Science North bluecoats, who provided spectacular face painting to kids young and old, and brought the most popular fourth floor exhibits right to the center of the action.

While waiting for their picture with Santa, attendees had the opportunity to try their hand at race car construction, video production, circuit building and many other interactive science related puzzles.

Before you know it the moment had arrived, and the crowd began to make their way into the courtyard, surrounding the featured tree like your favourite Dr. Seuss Christmas scene.

Santa traded in his sleigh that evening, arriving instead in a flashing bright red firetruck among his favourite firefighter helpers.

With cheers from the crowd, Santa flipped the switch to launch the 2018 Festival of Lights and crowds began making their way among the twinkling lights.
