On May 26, the Sudbury Lions Club will join factions across the country in hosting the annual Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Delki Dozzi Park.

Grab your leash and your favourite furry friend for this all-ages event, in support of the raising, training and placement of dog guides, for Canadians with medical or physical disabilities.

Prizes will be awarded based on dog breeds as well as the most funds raised in pledges, but don't worry if you don't have a four-footed friend to join you, they won't be able to appreciate the BBQ anyways.

Last year, Walk for Dog Guides across Northeastern Ontario raised over $31,000 for the cause, contributing to the more than $1.25 million raised nationally. According to a press release by the Sudbury Lions Club, this fundraising is critical as basic training for a dog guide ranges around $25,000, not to mention the additional $10,000 required for specialty training.

Those interested in participating can obtain pledge forms from their local Pet Valu store, or online here
