WATCH: Wynne joins Thibeault for chamber luncheon

Premier returns to Sudbury for first time in more than a year

Premier Kathleen Wynne was in Greater Sudbury today for the first time in more than a year.

She joined Minister of Energy and Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault for what was billed as a "fireside chat" hosted by the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce at the Holiday Inn on Regent Street.

Sudbury.com cameras were there to capture the event live. Watch the full broadcast above.

Wynne and Thibeault fielded questions from the floor ranging from the Ring of Fire project to proposed increases to the minimum wage and workplace benefits.

The premier often referred to the government's responsibility to assist those most vulnerable within the provincial economy — mainly the frontline employees, while small business owners who spoke contended that they too face vulnerabilities in the face of wage and benefit increases.

Wynne's popularity is low in Sudbury. A by-election scandal involving the premier's former deputy chief of staff, Pat Sorbara, and prominent local businessman, Gerry Lougheed, Jr., is still fresh in the minds of a voters and widely unpopular hydro policies have seen support for the Liberal government plummet province-wide.

With an election looming, Wynne is certainly looking to shore up Liberal support in the riding.
