Local 598 members ratify deal

Mine Mill Local 598/CAW members voted 92 per cent in favour of ratifying a four-year deal with Xstrata Nickel Feb. 1.

The union's Xstrata Nickel unit chair, Guy Desloges, confirmed the results Feb. 2.

A tentative deal was reached at around 7:45 a.m. Feb. 1 after a marathon bargaining session.

The new collective agreement includes items such as a $3,000 signing bonus to all active employees, and an additional $1,000 in the third year of the contract, as well as a one per cent wage increase in each year of the contract.
