About 150 members of Steelworkers Local 6500 gave their support to some fellow strikers in Pembroke, Ont. May 26.
Steelworkers Local 1-1000 members have been on strike against Pembroke-based Commonwealth Plywood since April 26.
The Local 6500 members stopped on their way to Ottawa, where they staged two rallies May 26 and 27.
Dave Weisenberg, local chairperson for Local 1-1000, told a Pembroke newspaper that his members appreciated the support from Local 6500.
"It's great for them to stop and say hello. It really means a lot to us," Weisenberg reportedly said.
Once the 150 Local 6500 members exited the trio of buses in front of Commonwealth Plywood, they began marching along River Road, waving Steelworker flags and chanting.
The group then headed up to the chain link fence near the factory itself, chanting “union power,” “fair deal now,” and “shame, shame.”
