Grade 10 École secondaire catholique Champlain student Vanessa Morris has been selected to sit on the Ontario Ministry of Education Minister’s Student Advisory Council for 2018-2019.

The 60 council members share their ideas and reflections with the Minister of Education on ways to further enhance Ontario’s public education system.

They also offer advice, particularly as it pertains to the ministry’s efforts to strengthen student commitment.

The Ontario Ministry of Education selected Morris on the basis of her leadership qualities and initiative she displayed both at school and in the greater community.

Vanessa currently represents Grade 10 students in the ÉSC Champlain’s student parliament, she is also youth adviser on the first ever North East Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) Patient and Family Advisory Committee.

She was selected to participate in SHAD’s 2018 summer enrichment program and is one of the student representatives at the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario’s sectorial tables, to name but a few of her accomplishments.

Morris will have the opportunity to develop her leadership skills and broaden her knowledge of strategic planning and of government policy, programs and practices aimed at making her peers aware of the programs and services that are offered to Ontario students.

“Our students are widely recognized for their leadership qualities and involvement in community affairs,” said Lyse-Anne Papineau, CSNO director of education, in a press release.

“We are thrilled in the knowledge that they have the ability to contribute to our French language Catholic schools and to the greater community, as well.

“Vanessa is a remarkable young woman. Her contributions to improving the school environment at Champlain are many, and she will now have an opportunity to share her leadership skills at the provincial level.”
