Local student wins National Deans' scholarship

Michel Montpellier , a top student at Collège Notre-Dame, has won a Laurentian University National Deans' Entrance Scholarships for Excellence. He will receive a scholarship, valued at $5,000. It is renewable for four years.
Michel Montpellier, a top student at Collège Notre-Dame, has won a Laurentian University National Deans' Entrance Scholarships for Excellence.

He will receive a scholarship, valued at $5,000. It is renewable for four years. He also will receive a mentorship with the dean of the faculty in which he is enrolled, a single room in residence and a study carrel in the J.N. Desmarais Library.

The National Deans' Scholars must achieve a minimum of 90 per cent average on their six best Ontario Academic Courses (OACs) or equivalent, and demonstrate exceptional leadership in their school and community.

Montpellier participated in the Concours provincial de français, the math competition of the University of Waterloo and the Leonardo da Vinci contest.

He helped elementary school students prepare for the start of classes, assisted the elderly, organize a Christmas celebration, and assisted with the children's liturgy at his church.

Montpellier is studying biochemistry and would like to pursue a career in the field of medicine, pharmacy or education.
