Lockerby students raise $64K for pediatric oncology

Kids Caring for Kids Cancer Drive has raised more thann $800K in two years

The Lockerby Composite School Vikings capitalized on the good weather Wednesday night to raise $64,025 for pediatric oncology at the Northeast Cancer Centre.
 
Their annual fundraising blitz, the Kids Caring for Kids Cancer Drive was once again a success thanks to the many teachers, students, staff and volunteers at Lockerby, said the Northern Cancer Foundation.
 
The funds raised from this year’s cancer drive brings Lockerby’s 20-year total to more than $800,000. 
 
Thursday morning, students stood and cheered with signs on the corner of Paris Street and Walford Street in a show of thanks to everyone who donated.
 
“These students are amazing, this city is amazing,” says Tannys Laughren, executive director of the Northern Cancer Foundation, in a press release. “Year after year the Vikes step up to the plate and year after year the Greater Sudbury community hits a home run. We’re in awe of the support.”
 
The Northern Cancer Foundation would like to pass on its thanks to the many members of the community for opening their doors and giving generously.
