Sudbury?s EZ Rock radio 103.5 FM is celebrating local women who make a difference in the community.

Sudbury?s EZ Rock radio 103.5 FM is celebrating local women who make a difference in the community.

The radio station is asking listeners to submit nominations for special women in their lives for the 3rd annual EZ Rock ?Unsung Hero? International Women?s Week Awards. The awards acknowledge the contributions of women from the grassroots level in the community.

In conjunction with International Women?s Week, five awards will be presented to women who have made their mark in Greater Sudbury through volunteerism, community activism, advocacy for women?s rights, as a role model or through peer-to-peer leadership. The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 3. Submissions can be faxed to 560-7232, or filed online at ezrock.sudbury.com.

?We all know women who have had a significant positive impact on our lives,? said Michael Allard, program director for EZ Rock Radio, in a news release. ?This is a chance for their peers to applaud their efforts, and to encourage others to take a more active role in our community.?

The winners will be celebrated March 12 at Laugher on the Rocks at the Steelworkers Union Centre on Frood Rd. All proceeds from the event are going in support of the Sudbury Women?s Centre.

Laughter on the Rocks will feature Yuk?s Yuk?s comedians Jo-Anne Downey, Shannon Laverty and Andrea Jensen. There will also be a chocolate fountain, a cash bar, an appetizer buffet and a silent auction.

Doors open at 6 pm, and the awards begin at 7 pm. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Advanced tickets can be purchased at the Sudbury Women?s Centre, Records on Wheels and Chapters.

For more information, phone the Sudbury Women?s Centre at 673-1916.
