In a Maclean's magazine survey published Monday (Nov. 7), Sudbury's Laurentian University placed near the bottom again for undergraduate universities, the same ranking as last year.

The university went on the defensive with a news release responding to the rating. The release says LU has more students enrolled this semester than at any time in its 45-year history, and has just opened the first medical school in Canada in more than 30 years.

It also states Laurentian ranks in the Top 10 when things such bursaries, student retention, and awards per full-time facility are considered.

"While students have recognized our growing achievements, it will take time before we perform well in the Maclean's exercise, which was designed for more traditional universities," said Judith Woodsworth, president of Laurentian.
