LU will wait and see what TVO investigation into Paikin harrasment claim turns up

Host of The Agenda — who's also LU's chancellor — has been accused of sexual harassment

Laurentian University said it will wait on the outcome of an investigation into its chancellor, Steve Paikin, before determining if any further action is required.

Paikin, host of TVO's The Agenda, is facing an allegation of sexual harassment from a former Toronto mayoral candidate who said he propositioned her for sex during a 2010 lunch.

TVO said it is appointing an independent third party to investigate the allegation by former Toronto mayoral candidate Sarah Thomson.

When asked what, if any, action it would be taking after these allegations, Laurentian issued a short email statement.

“Laurentian University has learned that allegations have been made against Steve Paikin and that an investigation has been launched,” the statement reads.

“We will determine if any further action is required following the outcome of the investigation.”

For its part, TVO said Paikin would remain his his role at The Agenda during the investigation.

“TVO does not tolerate sexual harassment,” the statement from TVO reads.

“We believe it is important that allegations be fully heard and investigated. Therefore, TVO is appointing an independent third party to investigate Ms. Thomson’s allegation.

“However, based on the evidence to date, TVO sees no reason to remove Mr. Paikin from his role as Host for The Agenda pending the outcome of the investigation. During the investigation, stories related to this subject matter will be handled by other TVO journalists.”
