As a result of dead-end negotiations, the Laurentian University Faculty Association (LUFA), which represents about 400 Laurentian University employees, has set a firm strike date of Oct. 12.

LUFA and the university have been meeting under the auspices of a mediator and will continue the bargaining process on Friday Oct. 7 in the hopes of compromising on key issues such as workloads, benefits and salaries.

Both sides say they are committed to reaching an agreement, although it remains to be seen whether the two parties can come together before the strike deadline.
