Students at École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier were evacuated this morning after a natural gas leak.

Greater Sudbury Fire Services Platoon Chief André Groulx said nobody was injured in the incident.

He said the fire department was called in around 9 a.m.

It looks like the problem originated in a heat exchanger on the school's roof, Groulx said.

Students were evacuated to nearby Collège Boréal, said Carole Dubé, a spokesperson for Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l'Ontario, the school board that runs Macdonald-Cartier.

Dubé now says the students are returning to the school, and will be staying on the ground floor, as the issue is affecting the third floor.

Metal Air and Union Gas were on scene looking into the issue, said Groulx.

“The issue is going to be repaired sooner than later,” said Groulx at around 9:45 a.m. Monday.
