A 38-year old man faces a number of charges after stealing a licence plate from a vehicle on the lot of Bob's Service Centre.

At 6:25 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, a GSPS officer located a pick-up truck with unauthorized plates on Mountain Street in Greater Sudbury. The truck was towed to Bob’s Service Centre as it was baring unauthorized plates on a roadway.

Shortly after 8 a.m. a man attended Bob’s Service Centre, unlawfully entered the lot, removed a licence plate from another vehicle in the compound, placed a previously stolen licence plate on the truck and drove off of the lot heading towards town.

Police were called regarding the incident. Officers attended Bob’s Service Centre and members of the Break Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit began to search the streets for the truck.

Members of the BEAR Unit spotted the truck traveling on Notre Dame Avenue, turning into and then parking in a driveway. Officers attended the area, blocking the truck in the driveway. The man jumped out of the truck and upon seeing the officers fled on foot.

A very short foot chase took place and the man was arrested by a member of the BEAR Unit on Murray Street.

A 38-year-old man was charged with the following:

  • Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (two counts)
  • Driving While Under Suspension (two counts)
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking
  • Break and Enter a Place to Commit Indictable Offence
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance

He was held in custody and attended bail court Friday morning to answer to the above charges.
