Two Kayakers were rescued from Lake Huron Sunday, one of which has since been taken to hospital with severe hypothermia.

On May 31, members of the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) participated in a joint effort to rescue two people stranded near Providence Bay, alongside civilians, emergency medical services, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Trenton and the U.S. Coast Guard.

What could have been a tragedy was otherwise prevented through the use of lifejackets, said North East OPP in a tweet later that day.

"Lifejackets save lives."

An earlier version of this story indicated that the individuals in question had not been wearing life jackets. This has been corrected.
