The OPP has recovered a man's body from Venetian Lake, north of Sudbury.

At 8:14 p.m. Sept. 4, police were notified of an abandoned boat stuck in the sand in the lake.

The Sudbury OPP, with the assistance of the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU), OPP Marine Unit and the OPP Helicopter, searched the lake for the man who had been seen fishing earlier in the same boat.

The USRU located his body at around 3:40 p.m. Sept. 6 in the same area where the boat was found. The man had not been wearing a PFD.

“OPP data show that eight out of 10 victims who die in fatal boating incidents are not wearing a Personal Floating Device (PFD),” the OPP said in a press release.

“Every vessel must have a personal flotation device or lifejacket for everyone on board and they must be accessible to all. Wearing a lifejacket can save your life.”
