Long-time Sudbury Catholic School Board trustee and Zone 1 (Wards 1 and 2) incumbent Estelle Scappatura has been unseated by her opponent, Shirley McKnight.

Many area school board trustees were acclaimed to their seats and many incumbents re-elected during the Oct. 24 election.

While that doesn’t exactly make for much drama, there was at least one surprise we’d like to highlight.

Long-time Sudbury Catholic School Board trustee and Zone 1 (Wards 1 and 2) incumbent Estelle Scappatura has been unseated by her opponent, Shirley McKnight.

Here’s a full breakdown of what happened in the various area school board races (results are currently unofficial):

Rainbow District School Board:

  • Area 1 - David Farrow acclaimed.
  • Area 2 - Anita Gibson (incumbent) acclaimed.
  • Area 3 - Judy Kosmerly (incumbent) wins over challenger Matthew Morris.
  • Area 4 - Dena Morrison (incumbent) acclaimed.
  • Area 5 - Doreen Dewar (incumbent) wins over challengers Dylan Gibson and Javier Rico Paez.
  • Area 6 - Judy Hunda (incumbent) acclaimed.

Sudbury Catholic District School Board:

  • Zone 1 - Newcomer Shirley McKnight wins over incumbent Estelle Scappatura.
  • Zone 2 - Raymond Desjardins (incumbent) acclaimed.
  • Zone 3 - Michael Bellmore (incumbent) acclaimed.
  • Zone 4 - No incumbent running in this electoral area. Stefano Presenza was leading with 35.97 per cent of the vote as of 10:40 p.m. Monday. His opponents, however, were fairly closely split in the vote, with Sherry Jordan receiving 32.41 per cent and Kevin Roy 31.62 per cent. Note that this electoral area also encompasses the municipalities of St. Charles and Markstay-Warren, so votes from those areas will also influence the final results.
  • Zone 5 - Alex Cimino (incumbent) wins over Claire Morrison.
  • Zone 6 - Jody Cameron (incumbent) acclaimed.

Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario:

  • Area 7 - Carole G. Anderson wins over Gouled Hassan, who was technically the incumbent in this electoral area. In May, Hassan was appointed as CSPGNO trustee until the fall elections, replacing a trustee who had moved away.
  • Area 8 - Robert Boileau (incumbent) acclaimed.
  • Area 9 - Julie Oliver (incumbent) acclaimed.
  • Area 10 - Andréane Chénier acclaimed.
  • Area 11 - Francine Vaillancourt (incumbent) acclaimed.
  • Area 12 - Francois Boudreau (incumbent) acclaimed.

Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon:

  • Zone 4 - Claude Berthiaume and Marcel Montpellier (both incumbents) acclaimed.
  • Zone 5 - As of late Monday evening, it looked like Monique Aubin-Gagné, Josée Roxanne Bisson and Raymond Joanisse had taken the three trustee spots in this electoral area. The two other candidates were Shawn Rossi and Stacy Sathaseevan.
  • Zone 6 - Louise Essiembre and Marcel Legault (both incumbents) acclaimed.

Some of these school boards also have trustees running in areas encompassed by other municipalities in Northern Ontario. These trustees have not been included in this article.
