Dozens of Sudburians showed up at Memorial Park on Nov. 29 for a climate march to promote climate justice.
The global event took place in more than 2,300 communities around the world in an effort to push for a fossil fuel free world by 2050.
In Sudbury, members of the Council of Canadians, Citizens' Climate Lobby, Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury were all on hand to march together.
One of the organizers of the event, Cathy Orlando, led the group in chants and songs. Orlando recently visited Ottawa in a peaceful protest.
“Tomorrow (Nov. 30) the United Nations talks on climate change start in Paris, and unfortunately their climate march had to be cancelled but this morning 10,000 shoes were placed on the street to mark their march,” said Orlando. “We're here today asking for a climate justice future because we know it's 100 per cent possible, I've been working on this issue for the past seven years and I know we have the technology to be off fossil fuels by 2050.”
