NDP children?s issues critic Shelley Martel, MPP for Nickel Belt, is calling on Premier Ernie Eves to immediately endorse the recommendations of The Commission on Early Learning and Child Care by investing in licensed child care.
The commission, created by the City of Toronto, released a report recently saying Ontario is violating a binding federal-provincial agreement to expand children?s services, partly because it hasn?t invested in licenced child care.
?Families with children are being cheated. Your government hasn?t spend a single red centre of that federal money for early years initiatives on licenced child care,? said Martel. ?Instead, you siphoned that money off to pay for other things, including a highly politicized Early Years Centres process which reduces services to families.?
