Marymount Academy is tackling the subject of drinking and driving, during its inaugural Grim Reaper Day Thursday, May 30.

Action Sudbury and Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving (OSIAD) are co-sponsoring the event. The idea for Grim Reaper Day came from Kari Soule, OSIAD student representative at Marymount.

During the school day on May 30, one student every hour will be chosen to wear a Grim Reaper T-shirt.

These students will be considered fatal victims of an impaired driver. Statistics show one person in Canada is killed by a drunk driver every hour. The students selected will not speak to any other student during school hours and no students will be allowed to speak to them.

In Sudbury, drunk driving incidents are on the rise.
