Mayor's mailbox won't be empty Feb. 14: Showing the love with 'Valentines for my City'

Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury hosts second round of Climate Change Cafes

Less than a month after their launch of the Climate Change Café, the Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury hosted its second round of events, this time with the theme of Valentine’s Day.

"Valentines for my City" workshops were hosted Saturday and Sunday at various locations within Greater Sudbury, with the goal of sending a large amount of
"valentines" to the city’s mayor and councillors. Through valentines, the Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury gave participants the opportunity to thank the city for the climate-conscious changes they have made and communicate the improvements they hope to see in the future.

“We all wanted to see another Climate Café, and the valentines are a good way to be positive as well as demanding,” said Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury workshop facilitator, Sharon Roy.

“The feedback was generally very positive” in response to the inaugural Climate Change Cafes, said Roy, with many hoping to “see more opportunities to let the city know what they need and to explore ideas on their own for what they could do.”

In the opinion of first-time Climate Change Café facilitator and master’s student in Laurentian University’s biology program Adam Kirkwood, these workshops are especially important as Sudbury works to finalize its strategic plan.

Those interested in hosting their own Climate Change Cafes are encouraged to do so by accessing the downloadable information package on the Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury’s website. These packages include details on the climate change crisis, steps to reduce carbon footprint, talking points, as well as postcards for the mayor and councillors.

In addition, the Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury can be contacted to answer any outstanding questions and provide assistance in hosting.
