The Ministry of Labour has ordered a number of work stoppages at Glencore to enhance safety at their Falconbridge plant.
On May 9, three people were injured, one critically in an industrial accident at Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations.
A 56-year old man was transported to hospital in critical condition on May 9, and a 55-year old man and 46-year old man were treated by paramedics for non-life threatening injuries.
On May 11, ministry inspectors and a ministry engineer attended the workplace.
"Four requirements were issued to Glencore for documentation and equipment," said Ministry spokesperson Janet Deline. "Three requirements have been complied with, one of the requirements for documentation is in progress."
On May 14, inspectors once again attended Glencore, where they issued 26 orders, including for hand rails (with related stop work orders), for equipment to be inspected (with related stop work order), for documentation and personal protective equipment (with a related stop work order).
Of the 26 orders, six have been complied with and 20 remain in progress.
The Ministry of Labour met with Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations on May 22 and one requirement was issued for documentation.
The investigation is ongoing.
