A “non-critical injury” suffered by a worker at Vale's North Mine is under investigation by the Ministry of Labour.

Ministry of Labour spokesperson Janet Deline said the ministry was notified of the incident May 5, but could not specify when it occurred. She also could not provide information about where exactly in the mine the incident happened.

“Two workers were working on a sand-filled barricade when the barricade gave way and that released some cement, wire and debris,” Deline said. “One worker suffered a non-critical injury.”

She said the ministry has issued two requirements for documentation from Vale. The company has already complied with one of those orders.

Two inspectors and an engineer have been assigned to assist in the ministry's investigation.

Sudbury.com has requested information about the incident from Vale earlier this afternoon, but they've yet to get back to us.
