A 58-year-old man who was an employee of R.M. Belanger Limited was killed Sept. 17 after he was struck by a hydro pole while offloading it from the bed of a tractor trailer, the Ministry of Labour confirms.

The incident took place at the Forest Ridge Golf Course in Chelmsford around 1:55 p.m.

The worker was transported to hospital and subsequently pronounced dead, said an email from Ministry of Labour spokesperson Janet Deline.

Ministry of Labour inspectors and an engineer attended the scene, and as a result, six orders were issued to R.M. Belanger Limited.

These relate to operating manuals for equipment, the inspection of equipment by a competent worker and providing information, instruction and supervision to a worker.

Stop-work orders are in effect until the issues detailed in these orders have been addressed.
