Updated: Power restored to local Hydro One customers after early-morning outage

About 8,000 customers were affected at peak of outage

Updated April 15 at 10:40 a.m.

Power has been restored to all affected customers, Hydro One said in a media release just after 9 a.m. Monday. The utility said the reason for the outage was a "material failure."

Original story:

More than 3,000 Hydro One customers are without power in the Walden, Chelmsford and Valley East areas of Greater Sudbury this morning, according to a notice issued by the utility just after 7 a.m. Monday morning.

Hydro One said the power outage started at around 3:46 a.m. Monday, initially impacting almost 8,000 customers. It estimates power will be restored by 11 a.m.

The reason for the outage is unknown at this time.

The specific townships affected by the outage are Waters, Wisner, Blezard, Eden, Rayside, Balfour and Hanmer.

The power went out for nearly 8,000 Hydro One customers in the same townships Sunday evening as well.
