Collège Boréal asked Nickel Belt MPP France Gélinas to apply to be its new president, but she declined the offer.

“They headhunted me and I said no,”  Gélinas told Sudbury.com, responding to rumours she would be stepping down from political office.

In recent years Gélinas, who is the NDP critic for Francophone affairs, has been an outspoken supporter for a French-language university in Ontario.

On May 26, 2015, she introduced a bill to create the Université de l’Ontario français.

Gélinas said she is happy in her current role and plans to continue serving the people of Nickel Belt in her capacity as their MPP.

“I think I still do a good job and I hope people see it that way,” she said.

Collège Boréal announced on July 22 it had decided to go with an internal candidate for the position of president.

Daniel Giroux, who is currently the school's vice-president of workforce and business development, will become Collège Boréal's fifth president on Sept. 1, 2016.

Giroux holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from Laurentian University. He is also a chartered professional accountant and was invited to be a leadership coach as part of Colleges and Institutes Canada’s Leadership Institute for Future Deans, Directors and Campus Principals in 2015 and 2016.

Winner of a Sudbury 40 Under Forty Award, Giroux was recognized as one of Greater Sudbury’s movers and shakers (Sudbury Living Magazine, April 2016).
