Municipal Road 55 is reopened in the Whitefish area after a collision earlier on Friday that injured a construction worker.

The incident is now under investigation by the Ministry of Labour.

Ministry spokesperson Janet Deline said in an email that the MOL was notified Oct. 27 that two Pioneer Construction workers were struck by a vehicle at a project in Whitefish.

Two inspectors were dispatched and are currently on site as part of the investigation.

No orders have been issued by the ministry at this time.

Greater Sudbury Police say Municipal Road 55 will be closed in the Whitefish area until around 3 p.m. this afternoon after a male construction worker was struck by a vehicle.

The worker was transported to HSN via air ambulance.

Staff Sgt. Valerie Tiplady said she's not sure of the worker's condition. “But the last information we did receive was that he was awake and being treated,” she said.

She said she's also not sure of the construction worker's specific role, or what he was doing in the area. However, other media are reporting the injured worker is a flagperson.
