A detour has been put into place following a serious collision on MR 80.

In order to allow motorists travelling northbound on MR 80, a detour has been set up and vehicles will be re-routed onto Robin Street and subsequently Neil Street.

Original story:

The Greater Sudbury Police Service is currently on scene of a serious motor vehicle collision on MR 80.

The highway is currently closed southbound at Valleyview Road and northbound at Donaldson Crescent

Motorist are requested to avoid the area and seek alternate routes as the highway will closed for a lengthy period of time.

GSPS officers are controlling intersections as far south as Kathleen Street in Sudbury to allow emergency vehicles a clear passage.

"It's just the ambulances going through right now," said Staff Sgt. Tim Burtt. "It has to do with the collision but it doesn't have to do with any closures, they're just transporting people with any injuries right now."

The Traffic Management Unit is currently on the scene and investigation is still in the preliminary stages.

"We're still determining any injuries and the investigation will go from there," said Burtt.

Burtt says that the section of MR 80 between Valleyview Road and Donaldson Crescent will remain closed for at least the next few hours.
