The new provincial phone tip line to report illegal natural resource activities has received more than 657 calls in just four months, Natural Resources Minister David Ramsay announced today.

?It?s clear from the number of calls received that Ontarians take the protection of our province?s natural resources very seriously,? said Ramsay in a press release.

?These tips from ethical hunters, anglers and members of the public are boosting our enforcement efforts and helping us to provide better protection for all of our resources.?

Callers to the tips line are connected to ministry enforcement staff who, in many cases, can relay information directly to officers in the field.

One tip enabled conservation officers to quickly locate an illegally killed moose in time to catch the suspects and send the meat to the food bank so it wouldn?t go to waste. An additional 226 calls were received by local district offices.

Anyone who sees or suspects violations involving fish and wildlife, forests, parks, aggregates and public lands is asked to call the ministry toll-free tip line at 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667). The line is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
