The North East Local Health Integration Network has thrown its support behind NEO Kids.

Last June, the NE LHIN put off supporting NEO Kids  and asked Health Sciences North to strengthen its business case for the project.

“The NE LHIN Board, like HSN, is committed to ensuring Northerners can access quality health care as close to home as possible,” said Danielle Bélanger-Corbin, chair, NE LHIN board.

“We support the idea of improving access to pediatric care for all Northerners. As a board, we need to ensure that proposals we support are sustainable and iron-clad so that they can viably compete with others looking for capital dollars across the province.”

Since June, HSN and NE LHIN senior staff have worked together to finalize and strengthen the pre-capital submission, said the a news release.

The new submission contains more robust data that considers referral patterns in detail and lower capital request. The proposal also meets several NE LHIN priorities, including stronger linkages with primary care, the inclusion of mental health services, better connections to First Nation communities and initiatives based on stakeholder engagement.

The NE LHIN will now write a letter of support to the Ministry of Health's Health Capital Infrastructure Branch. If supported, the project will move to Stage 1 of the capital process.
