Negotiations delay teachers' job actions

The Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF) has announced it is delaying the start of job actions.

OSSTF president Ken Coran announced Nov. 6 he “has been communicating with government representatives in the interest of going forward and seeking resolutions to the challenges facing the education sector.”

“A commitment has been made to meet on Nov. 7 to proceed in an expeditious and efficient manner and fast track to potential resolutions,” a press release from the OSSTF said.

The OSSTF has decided to put off sanctions until 11:59 p.m. Nov. 11.

The union had previously said members in a strike position as of Nov. 7 would begin job actions such as refusing to administer standardized tests, talk to parents or attend staff meetings.

Local OSSTF members are not yet in a strike position, but James Clyke, District 3 president of the OSSTF, which represents secondary teachers with the Rainbow board, said they could be by mid to late November.
