Desjardins financial services firm is providing $300,000 to support business students at Laurentian University in Sudbury.
The financial institution announced a new scholarship initiative on May 6. The company said the money would also support experiential learning opportunities and the future upgrading of a campus classroom.
According to a news release, the Desjardins Award in Business Administration will be awarded starting in the fall as the top prize in a venture project competition, in which students have to prepare a business plan, budget estimates and other documents to assess the feasibility of a potential business. Scholarships will be awarded to two students: one in the French program and one in the English program.
A second scholarship, the Desjardins Innovation Challenge Award, will be awarded to students as the top prize in the Voyagers’ Innovation Challenge, a unique entrepreneurship competition featuring teams of faculty members and students pitching their innovative business ideas to a panel of judges.
The release said the firm would also be offering co-op placement opportunities for Laurentian students.
