Grade 12 Bishop Alexander Carter Secondary School student Kira Gouchie was officially sworn in as the Sudbury Catholic District School Board's student trustee for the next school year during the Sept. 18 board meeting.

Gouchie read her pledge of citizenship and signed her declaration alongside chairperson of the board of trustees Michael Bellmore.

In addition to her role as student trustee, Gouchie participates in a variety of sports at her school, including flag football, volleyball, basketball and soccer.

She is heavily involved in student council and the Gatorade committee, which helps organize activities for students in and outside the school community.

"Being appointed student trustee for the Sudbury Catholic District School Board is one of the highest honours I have received,” Gouchie said, in a press release.

“I am determined to provide a strong voice for every student within our board."

“We are thrilled to welcome Kira to the position of student trustee,” said Michael Bellmore, chairperson of the board of trustees at the Sudbury Catholic District School Board.

“Her strong work ethic and passion for education and student voice will be a wonderful addition to the board of trustees.”
