Kirkland Lake has plans for a $8-million hockey tourist attraction to be called Hockey Heritage North. The planned multi-faceted complex will celebrate the stories of Northern Ontario hockey players - some 300 have played in the NHL. There will be a salute to women's hockey and a fun zone for children of all ages to challenge their hockey skills. The project has the support of the Hockey Hall of Fame and the NHL Players' Association. It is expected to attract about 32,000 visitors each year and bring in about $4 million annually in tourist dollars. The building committee is currently seeking support from the provincial and federal government.
