On March 18, NLFB will continue it’s annual tradition of hosting the March Meltdown at the Townehouse Tavern.

The Meltdown is an adjudicated battle-of-the-bands geared towards upcoming musicians hoping to play on the big stage. The winners receive a paid gig at this year's Northern Lights Festival Boréal, sharing the stage with Yukon Blonde and other acts from across the country.

The showcase will be divided into two portions: solo acts including singer-songwriters and spoken word artists will perform between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., while bands and larger groups will perform between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Performers are each assigned a 15-minute time slot, performing three songs, and will be evaluated by a panel of judges.

Two winners will be selected: one solo act and one band. Each will earn a slot at the festival this summer and will be eligible for musical mentorship programs.

Past winners of the Meltdown include Jennifer Holub, Hello Holiday and Martine Fortin.

Admission for spectators is $7 and includes admission to the Townehouse in the evening.

Registration for performers is $25 per act, and includes a one-year membership to NLFB. Participants must be registered by March 11.

Those who are interested are asked to contact the NLFB office at 705-674-5512 or email [email protected].

Registration forms are available on the NLFB website and in the office at 19 Grey St.
